The latest release of a Star Trek film has split the world down the middle - one half of the globe loves the film, the other half hates it - but when it comes down to it don’t we all want to be a little closer to space travel?

Well, now you can be with these games - below are some of the best space themed games covering a multitude of platforms that will get you a little closer to space, a little closer to Spock and a little closer to the late, great Gene Roddenberry…

Puzzle Quest: Galactrix

If you love Bejeweled, then you’ll love this game - think Bejeweled in Space…sounds like fun?  It is!  You are matching coloured gems in the same way that you do in Bejeweled but now you are doing so in space - hours of fun!

Star Trek Bridge Commander

This Star Trek game is being praised as one of the ultimate starship experiences out there available to you - granted it can have it’s long winded moments, but overall the game is truly a fun experience.

You aren’t with Kirk and Spock in the game - you’re in the Next Generation era with Picard and Data but even if the Next Gen isn’t your series, it won’t matter because you’ll still get your Trek addiction satisfied through this game.

Eve Online

Eve Online allows you to build, and then play with, your very own space empire.  As you might expect there is a lot involved in this game and you can seriously get lost for the rest of the decade playing this game.

Freespace 2

Although this game hails from many years ago it remains a great classic space thriller today.  The game comes from the developers of Saint’s Row and manages to deliver a strong plot and fun action.

Star Trek Legacy

If you are looking for pure starship on starship battles in what can only be described as realistic space, then Legacy is the way forward for you!  Legacy delivers true Star Trek battle experiences from each different television series making the game one for every Trekkie from here to Vulcan.

Star Trek Online

Although this game hasn’t been released yet, it makes the list because we know it’s just going to be legendary!  It’s currently in development and is going to be an online game that allows the game player to take the commanding chair in the bridge of their very own starship with the intention of exploring the galaxy like Kirk himself…

Keep your eyes out for this beast of game that is set to blow all other imitations out of the water!
