DSi Compatibility Issues begin to Crop Up
Unless you’ve been living in a cave you’re probably aware of the new Nintendo DSi’s imminent arrival. Well in Japan anyway…
The total lack of excitement for the new console has been apparent and with this latest piece of games gossip it seems that their may be another problem with the updated hardware.
It has emerged that some of the original games aren’t compatible with the DSi. No one considered the impact of losing the GBA slot would have until people try to play the brilliant Guitar Hero: On Tour, and realise they can’t. But its not just for peripherals, games are apparently affected too.
Studios are reportedly having problems with compatibility, with Nintendo refusing approval for the games “freezing up”.
If the rumours are true, then Nintendo could find themselves in the awkward position of upsetting developers, and losing customers. Many people I have spoke to have said they won’t even bother upgrading as they don’t see the point, and when this news spreads, DS fans won’t be pleased, and developers won’t be happy at having to adapt the way they design games just because of a couple of shoddy cameras and a bigger screen.
Also, what about the hundreds of games already out there? Will there be problems with more than just a select few, or could this be a gaming pandemic? How would you feel if your games couldn’t be played on a new handset? Would you bother to upgrade?
Nintendo were contacted by PocketGamer about the problems, and received this great reply:
“All DS titles are compatible with DSi, with the exception of those that require use of the GBA slot.”
*slow claps
So with the console on the way, it looks like we’ll have to play the waiting game…
