EA Looks To The Mobile Gaming Market
They may be one of the leaders in the console gaming market, but until recently the famous EA gaming company were not even registering in the mobile gaming market. However, this is all set to change with the release of 5 of the company’s popular games onto the mobile gaming platform with The Sims 2 Castaway, The Sims Pool, Monopoly Here and Now, Yahtzee Adventures and Merv Griffin’s Crosswords all available on both mobile phones and iPods for instant download. So what next?
EA have been one of the leading console game companies for many years and while it seemed obvious that some day they would try to crack the mobile gaming market, it has maybe taken a little longer than many had forecast. It seems that as interest continues to increase in the mobile gaming market, EA are ready to show there hand with a package of quality games which will surely make their mark.
It is interesting that they have not gone all out for the arcade market, instead looking to attract those looking for arcade style games as well as “brain games”. The “brain game” sector is one which has shown a massive increase in interest of late with many people attracted by the fact they can help themselves AND play a game at the same time. This is very much inline with the success of the Wii Fitness game which is literally sold out with official launch still over 1 week away!
While it would be wrong to say that the traditional shoot’em up games have had their day, there does seem to be increasing interest for other game genres. It will be interesting to see where this current trend leads because there is no doubt that it will dictate the games which are made available on the mobile gaming platform, a platform which seems to be playing out very differently to the traditional games console market.
