Family Guy Comes to Mobile, but is it five years too late?
You know the Simpsons right? Well they had a game out a while ago. You remember the great Futurama? Well they also had a game out. Now it seems Seth MacFarlane’s Family Guy is getting the video game treatment. But it begs the question…why so late in the day?
Jill Braff, senior vice president of global publishing at Glu, the company taking on the near impossible task of making a TV show’s humour translate into a game, is “delighted to bring the humour and characters of Family Guy, known and loved by millions around the world, to the mobile arena.”
“Family Guy is among the most popular animated comedies on television today and we look forward to translating the show’s hilarity and excitement within a fun, interactive, and engaging mobile experience.”
Over the years the show itself has been through hard times. It was cancelled, then restructure through massive DVD sales, then put on hold during the writers strike, then has been repeating the same jokes over and over again for the last couple of series’… “Like that time when…” But Fox Mobile Entertainment is happy to give the game the go ahead.
“Glu’s extensive experience developing successful licensed titles for the mobile platform makes them the ideal partner to bring the engaging and humorous characters of Family Guy to mobile consumers,” said Andrew Stalbow, senior vice president of Fox Mobile Entertainment. “We are excited to once again partner with Glu to deliver an authentic experience and a new way for our audience to interact with the Griffin family.”
Can this game do better than its fellow cartoon crossover brethren? We’ll just have to wait and see.
On a side note: I thought about ramming this article full of Family Guy quotes, but its perhaps rather telling that my motivation for doing so has gone, further installing that fact that there is little or no need for this game to exist.
