How To Read An eBook On Your DS

DS Reader - A Thing Of The Future?

Paper is a thing of the past - being the next generation we need to step out of our parent’s shadows and create a style of our own…and we will start doing this by reading books through our Nintendo DS’s.  But do you know how to?  It’s easy…

Download

Firstly you’re going to have to get your hands on the DS Reader - you need to get the DS Reader, DLDI File System Patcher and finally the DLDI Driver File and you can get hold of these files by doing a quick online search…

Unzip

Once you have all the files you will obviously have to unzip everything if you want to progress…make sure you keep everything together so you don’t get too confused (we know how confusing computers can be for some people so it’s nice to be nice).

Patch

You have to use the patch to allow the software to access the files on your card - to do this you simply extract the patch software and run the executable program.  Then press the DLDI File button and browse your little self over to the DLDI driver file you originally downloaded.

Then select the Binaries button and find the file called DSReader.nds file.  Once you’re done then simply drag DSReader.nds, arial.ttf and a practice .txt file or eBook over to your card’s root folder.

DS Reader

Fire up the DS Reader by removing your card or stick from your PC and place it back into your DS.  Switch your little angel back on and boot up the DSReader.nds file - don’t panic if the software takes an age to load, once it’s done you’ll be happy!

Set Up

Once open you should set up the Reader properly.  Open the menu by dragging your finger upwards on the bottom screen.  Select the Folder icon so you can browse through your files and find your text file and open it.

Select the book icon to open files and use bookmarks which are obviously needed when you don’t fancy reading books all in one go.  All you have to do is select Save Bookmark.  The Font icon obviously allows you to adjust sizes and styles of text where available as well as background colour.

The last icon, the Screen Icon, allows you to adjust the display - you can choose to either view the book on one screen or over the two screens.  Finally you can close the menu the opposite way you opened it, by dragging the menu down.

Read

You’re done, now start your reading.  The weather’s great right now so why not load up a Jane Austen novel, pick a spot under the shade of an Oak tree and start relaxing.  If that’s not your thing then never mind, do something else…

Books or eBooks?

Are you happy to say goodbye to paper books?  Have you been a fan of eBooks for years?  Some people don’t like reading through computer screens…are you one of these people?  Let us know…
