Is Gizmondo due to feature Google’s ‘Android’ OS

Gizmondo, the beleaguered handheld console, has had something of a troubled past, but will it have a troubled future?

The Gizmondo was supposed to launch last January, but it got pushed back to February. When it never showed up Former Gizmondo boss Carl Freer announced in May that it was still coming.

With it back on, maybe, Swedish journalist Hans Sandberg is claiming to have seen on of the new Gizmondo handsets, although it wasn’t switched on. How did he get his hands on it? In a meeting with Richard Jenkins, CEO of The Media Power Group, who are apparently involved in the devices re-launch.

As ever, details are sparse however something exciting is that the handset is set to run either Windows CE 6.0 or Google’s highly anticipated new operating system: Android. The handset boasts a newer version of the Nvidia graphics chip that was in the original Gizmondo.

The Swede’s report claims the device will be available for pre-order in November or December from a newly designed Gizmondo website.

With such a ridiculous past, I find all this hard to believe, but if it is true it’ll be interesting to see what Android can do with the Gizmondo’s hardware. Stay tuned game fans.
