JoyPad could take iPhone to new Gaming Levels
The iPhone, all things considered, has become a pretty solid gaming platform. With the recent release of the ambitious title Spore, TouchArcade has decided to look in to the hardware side of the device and unearthed a very familiar looking peripheral from Belkin.
It looks like a PSP. I’m just putting it out there. The JoyPod existed in only prototype drawings, and schematics, but now a real physical prototype has arrived. Cool.
Even cooler is that now Apple, instead of shunning it like an unwanted calf, has confirmed they will release an SDK for the device, which means its now a serious contender to the PSP/DS manned throne.
It’s quite impressive that Belkin managed to get official support for an Apple product, who have always been inward investing, but it could certainly increase the appeal of the iPhone and iPod touch (so long as the JoyPod fits correctly) as a gaming platform.
The JoyPod features ports for the proprietary connector and audio jack, so there’s no concern over charging, syncing, browsing or listening to music while using the JoyPod.
