Move Over DS, DSi is (almost) Here

Well the rumours of the last few weeks have come true, today a 3rd version of Nintendo’s demographic smashing handheld has been revealed. The Nintendo DSi is the successor to the DSlite and although the design looks pretty similar, there are some nice new features that are getting people mildly excited.

The DSi features two 0.3-megapixel (640×480) cameras, one on the outside and one on the inside of the case. Both of the DSi’s screens have been increased in size to 3.25 (from its previous 3), there is also an SD slot which one would assume is for saving the pictures you take with your camera (to be uploaded to the Wii’s picture gallery) and to save content, for transfer to other DSi’s.

The DSi now features the Opera Web browser, which before was only available as a separate plug-in, and should open up gaming opportunities, allowing for micro game sites and browser based gaming. This also allows access to the Nintendo DSi Store which sells DSi Ware.

The Game Boy Advance slot is gone, presumably because kids these days playing the DSi are too young to even remember GBA, and it makes it smaller too. This could mean that DSi Ware will feature GBA games as a download, to satisfy us oldies.

And so far, that’s all anyone knows apart from that it costs about £100, comes in black or white and is expected to hit our shelves in early 2009.
