Nokia Ask The People For Help

Nokia CompetitionAs they say in business, the best people to ask for advice are your customers, something which mobile phone giant Nokia have done, with a Euro 70,000 sweetener!

Nokia have launched their Mobile Games Innovation Challenge in order to attract new and exciting ideas for the future of the mobile gaming market – although all of the entries must be built around their Nokia N-Gage system which has just been launched. This is a very interesting way of finding the future direction of the market, and the fact that it must be compatible with the N-Gage system means that there is limited detail which competitors can take from the results. So what is next for the mobile gaming market?

There are so many developments ongoing in the industry that it is difficult to know what will be released tomorrow and which is proving more popular at the moment. There does seem to be a move towards “brain game” related gaming with the success of the Nintendo product probably at the heart of that move. We have also seen a move back to some of the older retro games where flash graphics and super fast movement are not necessarily required.

When you take a look back at the mobile gaming industry you will see that just a decade ago the sector was near non-existent but today it is one of the fastest growing areas of gaming and mobile phone services. The main players have not been slow to realise that there is potential for enormous sponsorship and subscription income to come from this area. It will be interesting to see the results of the Nokia challenge and find out exactly what people want to see and what they want to play.

This could turn out to be a master stroke from the mobile phone giant because not only has it attracted a lot of interest, it could give their handset sales a massive boost – money talks!
