Nokia Hits The Spot With N-Gage
It seems as though the mobile gaming system which the world has been waiting is finally here, with Nokia set to officially unveil their new N-Gage service on 7th April. However, in order to wet the lips of those who read the official N-Gage blog they have announced that the software required to access the service is actually available now. So what are you waiting for? What can you actually expect?
N-Gage was first mooted some time ago and was originally to be based around their earlier mobile gaming system, but Nokia quickly realised that this market was going to be enormous in the future and set about creating their very own unique N-Gage system. Those who are not aware of the detail may wonder exactly what it has to offer, but when you consider that such names as Electronic Arts, Gameloft and Glu Mobile have already signed up to release their games via the service, you may begin to appreciate the potential.
The software needed to download the games is available at the N-Gage website with Nokia N95, N81 and N72 handsets currently compatible, although there are plans to rollout the service to the vast majority of Nokia handsets, very soon after launch. Upon UK launch we will see games such as Asphalt 3: Street Rules, Hooked On: Creatures of the deep, Brain Challenge and System Rush: Evolution available to play. Prices will be competitive with full copies expected to be in the region of £6 to £8, but part downloads will be available free of charge.
Now that Nokia have put down a market for their mobile gaming system, many are expecting other major handset manufacturers to follow suit. The mobile gaming market has been a little slow to take off in some areas of society but there is no doubt that over time it will be as a very lucrative income stream.
