Nokia N-gage to get All Shook Up
Nokia’s N-Gage platform needed a shake up, and according to an interview with the company’s Dr Mark Ollila by N-Gage Insider (the company’s own) website.
“One technology that I think we’ll see more of is haptics,” he says. “Vibration is something that our games should be using because it is such a powerful way of sending information to the player.”
He didn’t stop there; Ollila said that camera input will be more important in the future.
“Will we be using the camera to do things like augmented reality where you take real videos and re-augment that video feed with virtual objects? With augmented mobile reality, we’ve looked at how if we put markets in the real world, your phone in camera mode recognises them.”
Ollia also goes on to mention about using the handset’s microphone, in a similar way to the Nintendo DS, as well as incorporating location into N-Gage games.
No-one knows when or if all these promises will be met, but it could form part of the next SDK (software development kit) for developers.
