PocketGod - Can Your iPhone Bring You Closer To God?

Pocket God Is Racist…

God has made the headlines once again - but this time it’s the iPhone that is the platform of choice.  The popular app Pocket God is being slated for being racist.  In the game you play a God where you decide how you want to kill and torture little dudes with ponytails and nose bones - racist?  Do you see it?

The claims of racism have come from the Pacific Women’s Information Network who think that torture and murder are pretty sick premise for a game on a platform that kids can get their hands on.

According to one of the women’s group’s members, Elaine Howard, any other minority featuring in the game would see the game pulled from the AppStore.  However because the characters are seemingly Polynesian no one seems to care…

“How do you think people would react if you created a game where you were God and you could create and kill as many Mexicans as you wanted? Or Asians?  People would be outraged. I hope you don’t decide to advertise your application in New Zealand or Australia because you will get a backlash of the same intensity,” says Howard.

We’re sorry…

However, the guys over at Bolt Creative who are behind the game currently enjoying 5th place on Apple’s top paid apps list are claiming that the intention of the game was not to be racist at all and have put their hands up and apologised for any “misplaced” offence.

A Bolt Creative representative said, “Bolt Creative does not intend and has never intended to offend or marginalize any nationality, race, or culture in any of its video games, including Pocket God.”

So in light of this possible racist attack on the world we’ve decided to take a look at some of the top religious apps out there in the AppStore that are available to be picked up and used to heighten religious belief…

Holy Bible

The bible is a great place to start - If you have an iPhone and you want to find out more about Jesus then download this app.  You’ll be able to read up about God’s son while still staying cool with your iPhone and you’ll be able to fill all your mates in when your done through the wondrous Facebook app.

The Quran

Quran apps are similar obviously to the Holy Bible app above.  There are a number of different apps that deliver the stories of Islam but the cheapest available if the free version entitled iQuran.

The Bhagavad-Gita

Although you may not be aware of this Hindu text it can actually be found on the AppStore for a small fee.  It works in the same way as the Holy Bible app and of course iQuran but as there isn’t a free version you should think twice before jumping into something you might not find fits into your day-to-day life.

Religion Meets The iPhone

Do you think religion has a place on the iPhone platform?  Do you think it’s a great way of spreading the word or does it make a mockery of your beliefs?  Let us know…
