Robo Defense for Android
Got an Android phone and a few hours (or more!) to while away? Then you might want to give Robo Defense a spin. It’s a popular tower defence game by Lupis Labs Software with one or two differences that make it quite addictive. Whilst you have to build up your defences, just like in any other defence game, in this one you accumulate credit each time you play which can then be used to improve towers in the next game. There are two versions; one paid for ($2.99) and a free version that comes with 1 map and 11 difficulty levels.
You have to stop robots getting from one side of a room to the other by building defence towers. There are nine types of robot and nine types of tower with varying degrees of tower upgrade available. Along with the basic aim of stopping the robots there are a number of achievements available to earn whilst playing offering extra credit - e.g. for completing a game without any robots getting across - so there are enough levels and achievements to keep the addiction going for a very long time. You can pause the game so there’s a chance to survey the damage and take stock although there’s no real penalty for losing – in fact it can be good to lose a few on purpose as part of the learning curve.
The user interface is nice and clean - easy to read and access what you need. Response times are quick and navigation feels smooth. There is a good sense of achievement moving through levels as each one is noticeably different. There’s plenty here to help the commuting time whizz by (plus a fast forward button to speed things up even further). It looks like the game is being developed and added to regularly with plenty of updates.
A word of caution though - this game might be too addictive for some!
