Steve Jobs’ ill health could be a big problem for Apple
The web is alight with talk about the health of Steve Jobs. Is he alive? Why is he thin? Why is he absent from the MacWorld Expo? Everyone is asking the questions. However, Steve claims that his weight loss can be blamed on his hormones.
Steve has told the web-waves that he has seen doctors and they have told him that a hormone imbalance has been diagnosed as the cause of the issue, quashing rumours surrounding the subject.
Jobs announced that, “Fortunately, after further testing, my doctors think they have found the cause–a hormone imbalance that has been “robbing” me of the proteins my body needs to be healthy. Sophisticated blood tests have confirmed this diagnosis. The remedy for this nutritional problem is relatively simple and straightforward, and I’ve already begun treatment. But, just like I didn’t lose this much weight and body mass in a week or a month, my doctors expect it will take me until late this spring to regain it. I will continue as Apple’s CEO during my recovery.”
Jobs went on to seemingly place the importance of Apple at the top of his priorities list, saying, “I will be the first one to step up and tell our Board of Directors if I can no longer continue to fulfill my duties as Apple’s CEO. I hope the Apple community will support me in my recovery and know that I will always put what is best for Apple first.”
Rumors started to surface on the matter of Jobs’ health after he appeared in June looking a little on the ill side, although Apple put the cause of the appearance down to a “common bug”. However, not many people bought that little explanation and badgered the company for a true answer on the health of the company’s front man.
Steve Jobs has had a tough time with health in the past as well as he recently underwent an operation to extract a cancerous tumor in his pancreas in August 2004 and many were claiming that the CEO was dealing with cancer once again now.
Yet now many are crticising Apple for taking so long to bring the news to the public, highlighting the company’s story of a “common bug” being an unnecessary ploy. An analyst at Technology Business Research Inc Ezra Gottheil, claimed that Apple were wrong to beat around the bush on the matter, saying, “This was a restrained way of doing it. I just wish they had been quicker with it.”
However, the worse news for Apple is that many are seeing Steve Jobs’ downturn in health to be connected with Apple’s standing in the business world. Many investors fear Steve Jobs’ announcement to leave the company as the success of Apple has been tied so closely with the CEOs presence.
The offset of Steve Jobs’ absence from the MacWorld Expo is just an inkling of how the company may struggle in his absence whether for a month, a year or forever.
