Tips - Stretch Out Your iPhone Battery…

iPhone batteries aren’t exactly known for breaking any records for lasting long – there are arguably one of the worst features of the iPhone as a whole and it’s pretty surprising that they didn’t give the issue more attention when they brought out the iPhone 3G…but they didn’t so let’s move on.

There are a few things that you could do, however, to extend the time you want your iPhone to stay on.  Maybe you want to use your iPhone for more than a day as if it were a normal phone – well don’t worry…try these tips before you call Apple to have a go at them for making an inferior battery;

For a start when you have the iPhone on auto-pilot you will be using up battery power that you don’t need to be wasting – there’s a little bit of common sense involved in battery power preservation!

Build it up, let it down…

It’s a good idea to push the battery to the limit – once a month charge it up to its full power and then let it fall all the way down to empty so it switches off.  Granted you won’t have to wait too long to get down to no juice but by doing this you will be cycling the lithium battery.

Cycling the battery makes sure that the display of your charging status is correct and you will also be preventing your battery from having “memory” which seriously affects battery life performance.

The mail is the limit.

The auto check option for the email is a big battery drainer.  By using the limited mail option you will be saving on battery power as well as reducing the impact that the option has on the CPU of the iPhone.

You should also notice that your iPhone’s CPU will start to run at its top speed which it couldn’t do when it constantly had one eye on the mail…

Auto lock is the key…(get it?)

Having auto lock on “never” will drain your battery faster than Mr Muscle will clear your sink – it’s a completely unnecessary loss of power that you can do without.

Instead of having the auto lock set to “never” you should switch it to either 1 minute or 2 minute.  By doing this you will be giving your phone a bit of a digital nap and you’ll be boosting the batteries life span by letting it catch a few Zs here and there.

Bluetooth…do you need it?

Bluetooth is something that people often leave switched on…but do you really need to leave it on every minute of the day?  Probably not when you think about it.  By switching it on only when you need it you’ll be saving tons of battery power to use for other things…

Same with Wi-Fi…

As with Bluetooth you may find that you don’t always need Wi-Fi switched on so why not only switch it on when you need it.

These steps are great ways of saving loads of juice on your Smartphone so why not give them ago for a couple of weeks…it can’t hurt!
