The best classic games for the iPhone

You might have your reservations when it comes to tabletop classic games like chess and checkers for the iPhone - however, I’m here to change your mind!

Just because you’ve got a flashy piece of kit in your pocket, it doesn’t mean you can’t go back to the old skool with the classics and still have a fun time.  Read on to find out some of the best in the area to bring the old styles forward to the most innovative platform out there at the moment.

Chess-O

So you want to play chess?  Chess is a fairly basic game but Chess-O allows you to change the style of the board, change the pieces and customise to your heart’s content.

You can even play around with the rules - choose your timing rules, flip the board around, whatever you want - it’s your game of chess!

Chess With Friends

If Chess-O isn’t doing it for you and you’re feeling a little lonely, then this version of the classic game brings the old favourite snail-mail version of the real game back to life on the iPhone.

If you can think back to the days when people would make a move on the board, write their move down in a letter and send it off in the post then you’ll know what I’m talking about - it was a simpler time!

Today we can do it again through the magic of the web - stay connected with your mates by playing with a bunch of mates over a number of different boards across the world.

Checkers Free

There are very few games with a simpler idea than Checkers - you jump over the other coloured check to steal them…how simple is that?  Now you can play it on your iPhone.

This version of the Checkers game allows you to either play against a mate or play against the computer - there isn’t that much involved (after all it’s just Checkers) but once you start playing you’ll want to play all the time!

Tic Tac Toe

Also known as noughts and crosses, this version of the popular 3-in-a-row game manages to deliver the basics we’ve all come to rely on.  Gone are the days playing with a mate on a steamy window or on a tatty piece of paper.  You can know play on your iPhone and enjoy the funky graphics at the same time.

Rock-Paper-Scissors

Is this the best game on the iPhone?  Maybe…however after about 3 goes you’ll get a bit bored!  After all you didn’t spend hundreds of pounds for a device that simulates a hand (you have two of your own you know).  Still, it’s worth a go, even if only for the kitsch value!
