Voodoo Firefly is the portable gamer’s dream
There’s a new daddy on the block and it comes to you in the form of a laptop – but it’s so much more. It’s going around calling itself the Firefly and it’s here to blow your gaming minds.
Just in case one screen wasn’t enough for your laptop, the Firefly brings you two screens, fair play one of them is tiny, but still there are two screens. It looks a bit like a mutant Nintendo DS because the main screen is so much bigger…still if they want to give us another screen who are we to refuse. The mini second screen is a 800 by 640 resolution display and the primary screen is significantly more ‘normal’ being 1920 by 1200. Two screens are clearly for the kind of game player who simply wants to race through a RPG but at the same time catch up on the latest material that youtube has to offer. I sit next to a television but surely this is better.
And to go along with the whole ‘trying to be different’ attitude that the laptop they have moved the trackpad from the centre of the base of the laptop and moved it to the right for what they feel will provide a better class of gaming and give the user the feel of using an actual mouse and not a trackpad…interesting idea. But we’re not leaving the trackpad there, as Voodoo, the creator of the Firefly, have slapped in the ability of a multi-touch trackpad, similar to Mac’s trackpad, that allows its user to use more than one finger on the trackpad to make it more efficient – once again quite a good idea for a gaming laptop.
But what is inside the laptop, I hear you ask. Well, fortunately you won’t be disappointed there either as the Firefly is packed with the a great level of specification. The laptop is powered by 4GB of RAM, a 25GB HDD, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Core processor and two ATI Mobility Radeon HD 387- GPUs. If you get lagging on this beauty, I reckon Voodoo will give you the keys to their office, but they probably won’t legally say that. What more could you need for your gaming needs?
Well its not all good news I’m afraid. Although the idea is right there, this little Firefly is just a prototype but don’t shed a tear just yet because you must understand that prototypes are made to put the company’s feelers out into the market and I’m sure that there will be no bad reviews about this little firecracker.
Still it is a little sad to think that everything that I’ve just said above cannot actually be used just yet. Far Cry 2 is said to have run “silky smooth” on the laptop which gives an idea of just how laptop makers can actually get it spot on. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed that they bring out the real version sooner rather than later.
